In 1886, the original plat of Sarasota included the Rosemary District. The Rosemary District’s name is derived from its cemetery where tombstones indicate the graves of some of Sarasota’s most prominent founding fathers.
The Rosemary District is a very diverse area sprinkled with historic homes and “old Florida” bungalows. You’ll find an array of upscale or casual restaurants and cafes, antique shops, art galleries, photography studios as well as charming boutiques.
Homes in the Rosemary District are older and eclectic. Many of these homes have been restored and others are waiting for a helping hand. This District is also home to newer condominiums featuring upscale amenities. A historic neighborhood, the Rosemary District is evolving into a Sarasota urban destination.
